India: HeidelbergCement India has commissioned an alternative fuel (AF) receiving, storage and feeding system at its Narsingarh clinker plant in Madhya Pradesh. United News of India has reported the company’s investment in the facility’s construction as US$2.16m. It says that it will give the Narsingarh plant an AF substitution rate of 5%, reducing its carbon footprint by 42,000t/yr. The company plans to raise its substitution rate to over 10% ‘in the coming years.’

Colombia: Cementos Argos says that it processed 20,000t of waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in 2021. The RDF replaced some of the fossil fuels in its cement plants’ fuel mixes. During the year, the company also increased its total volume of tyres used as fuel by 48%.

Netherlands: N+P Group acquired the Rotterdam Waalhavenweg waste sorting plant in South Holland from PreZero Nederland on 1 January 2022. N+P Group’s chief executive officer Karel Jennissen welcomed colleagues at the newly acquired location into the company.

Jennissen said “I am proud that [plant manager] Klaas Wierda and I could raise our flag.” He added enigmatically “Another flag is also on its way to a new location in the UK.”

France: Fives says it will supply a Pillard NovaFlam Evolution burner to an unnamed French cement producer to achieve a 100% alternative fuels substitution rate. The client's rotary kiln currently uses 60% alternative solid fuel (ASF), with 30% for the main burner and 30% for the satellite burner. Commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
