Argentina: Geocycle has commissioned the new Line 2 of its Piedra Blanca waste management plant, Norte En Linea News has reported. The facility will now process 100,000t/yr of waste. Geocycle will supply the remaining 45% fraction of unsorted waste after processing to Holcim Argentina's Malagueño cement plant for use as refuse-derived fuel (RDF). By diverting non-recyclable waste from incineration, Geocycle says that the new line will eliminate 25,000t/yr of CO₂ emissions.

India: Coimbatore Municipal City Corporation says that it has reached a rate of 54,800t/yr in refuse derived fuel (RDF) deliveries to cement plants in Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur District. The Indian Express newspaper has reported that the corporation collects 1000t/day of waste, from which its sorts 150t/day of non-biodegradable waste into RDF. It has launched landfill mining at a 26.7ha tip in Vellalore, where it expects to extract several tens of thousands of tonnes more of non-biodegradable waste.

Germany: BHS-Sonthofen has upgraded its Sonthofen, Bavaria, testing centre. The supplier has installed new recycling systems for customers to test on different waste streams.

Thanks to the expansion of the recycling and environment test division, our customers are able to test all their processes in this area even more comprehensibly in our facilities.”

Norway: Geminor has signed a contract with Renovasjon i Grenland to handle and treat 7000t/yr of municipal solid waste (MSW) for two years to 2023 with an option to extend to 2026. The MSW will be transported to Geminor's partner in the project, Bjorstaddalen Næring. This company will process the waste at its Skien plant in Telemark. The plant uses robotic sorters that can perform up to 6000 picks/hr. The unit also uses ‘unique’ sensor technology that enable shape, colour and material identification. This system can also be taught to recognise new fractions.

Bjorstaddalen Næring chief executive officer Sindre Hauen said “Better sorting means better use of materials.” He added “In case of new market opportunities - or even regulations - the system can be taught to recognise new fractions. We want to be in front when it comes to robot sorting, and are constantly looking for better solutions in our waste management.”
